Atlantic AAA Hockey Returns to CBS Stadium!
Atlantic AAA hockey returns once again to the new CBS Stadium as the Conception Bay Regional Minor Hockey Association plays host to the 2017 Bell Aliant Peewee AAA Atlantics from April 6th to the 9th. The first Bell Aliant Atlantics took place in Mount Pearl in 2006. After falling behind 3-0 to Halifax, the Fredericton Sunbury Canadiens rallied for seven unanswered goals to claim the first Atlantic Peewee AAA Championship sponsored by Bell Aliant. Since 2005, New Brunswick has claimed the title six times, while Newfoundland and Labrador and Nova Scotia have won it three times each. The 13th edition of this super entertaining event marks the fourth time it has been hosted in Newfoundland and Labrador. 48 Peewee AAA teams began the season across Atlantic Canada hoping to earn the right to represent their province at the Bell Aliant Atlantics. Four Provincial Champions, the Riverview Blues (NB), Charlottetown Abbies (PEI), Pictou County Crushers (NS), and St. John's hitmen (NL), along with the Host Team, the Tri-Com Thunder, sponsored by B&B Electrical, will battle it out in a ten-game round robin schedule. Play-offs will feature a Bronze Medal Match on the morning of April 9th,followed by the Gold Medal Match at noon. Last year the St. John's Hitmen claimed the coveted Atlantic title in Charlottetown by defeating the East Hants Penguins from Nova Scotia by a score of 4-2. Jordan Winter's two goals and Evan Martin's goaltending led the way for the victors. Abby Newhook of the Hitmen was awarded Top Forward at the event.
