Pictou County Crushers & Riverview Blues Qualify for Atlantics
Nobody could have written a better sports script on Sunday afternoon. In Trenton, the TASA Ducks lined up against the host Pictou County Crushers for the Nova Scotia Peewee AAA title. Meanwhile, in Dalhousie, the Pionniers Nord-Ouest squared off against the Riverview Blues for the New Brunswick crown. Based on their records this season, both the Ducks and Pionniers were clear favorites. But in Peewee AAA tournament hockey, things can change quickly when a group of kids start believing they can do it. With about four seconds to play, Landon Sim’s backhander through the five-hole put the Crushers ahead for good and the full house into a frenzy over the 3-2 win by the underdogs. Less than an hour later in Marshall Snider scored in overtime to lift the underdog Blues pass the Pionniers 2-1. The long ride home from northern New Brunswick probably seemed short for the Blues tonight. The display of hockey skill and effort was top-notch from all four teams today and heads should be held high. Welcome Riverview Blues and Pictou County Crushers to the Bell Aliant Atlantics. We look forward to you passing our way!
